When machining turns fully autonomous, production possibilities multiply – from batch size 1 to fully autonomous volume production.

At the EMO this year, we had many interesting discussions about the potential and possibilities of autonomous machining. We at Zuse Hüller Hille believe that the individualization of our world entails the need to specialize production processes in just the same way. This is why we focus our R&D efforts strongly on autonomous machining, advancing the transformation towards a production that follows the product, and not vice versa.

With autonomous manufacturing, decentralized planning intelligence organizes machine tools, automation and control systems in a cyber-physic-system (CPS). The need to retool or retrofit becomes obsolete – your machine tool works in complete self-organization: batch size one becomes possible and profitable. Cyber-physic-systems are systems with imbedded software and electronics that are connected to the external world via sensors and actuators (drive components). All units connected inside the cyber-physic-systems communicate with each other, completely self-organized without hierarchies or production control. By priority allocation, members of the cyber-physic systems determine, which components are machined in which sequence. Ready to step up your production?
